WHAT WE KNOW – THE EVIDENCE Performance feedback involves providing an individual, or group, with information regarding their own performance with the objective of influencing their practice. In the context of hand hygiene promotion, performance feedback generally means providing healthcare workers (HCWs) with their own hand hygiene compliance data. HCWs generally overestimate their own hand hygiene compliance. Hence, feedback can facilitate improvement by drawing HCWs’ attention to the discordance between their perceived and actual performance.
