Subjects suggested different types of information they felt could help raise awareness among policy makers and influencers of the impact of air pollution on health. These included providing peer-reviewed papers; cost-benefit analyses; information on health benefits and health-impact assessments; maps of air pollution and health-impact assessments that show inequalities in exposure and in health effects; and comparative risk assessments for air pollution and other environmental factors. Other suggestions included emphasizing long-term effects and years of life lost; and providing the media with information on the health effects of air pollution. ACTION Final rule. SUMMARY In this action EPA is limiting the interstate transport of emissions of nitrogen oxides NOX and sulfur dioxide SO2 that contribute to harmful levels of fine particle matter and ozone in downwind states. EPA is identifying emissions within 27 states in the eastern United States that significantly affect the ability of downwind states to attain and maintain compliance with the 1997 and 2006 fine particulate matter national ambient air quality standards NAAQS and the 1997 ozone NAAQS.
