In order to provide users with appropriate mechanisms for presenting themselves, i propose a two-tiered approach. First, users should have tools to be aware of themselves and others. Second, they should have tools to manage their identity and presentation. Given this perspective, Chapter 4 introduces digital self-awareness tools. By presenting a selection of current tools, i discuss the motivations of designers in providing users with necessary feedback mechanisms, including visualization tools and data collection systems. During the decade following the first reported cases of AIDS a diagnosis of AIDS typically was followed by a period of increasing disability related to AIDS and the accompanying opportunistic infections and ultimately death. The introduction of new treatments extended lifespan and improved quality of life but it was not until the mid-1990s that the introduction of protease inhibitors brought the promise of the reversal of the disease process. It was at this time that many disabled people with HIV AIDS began seriously to contemplate a return to work. The purpose of this article is to outline the backdrop against which employment with HIV AIDS should be viewed to provide an outline of some of the research conducted in this arena to provide an overview of the process of and barriers to returning to work for people with HIV AIDS and to lay out implications of findings to date for people living with HIV who are contemplating workforce reentry.
