The first part gives the setting of the story starting with Herod the Great. Now this man Herod as you know was a very wicked king. He reigned the territory of Judea from the year 37 BC until the year 4 AD. He was an Edomite which means that he was not one of the descendants of the twelve tribes of Israel but rather he was from the land of Edom. There are quite a few Herods. The Herod whom Jesus was sent to by Pilate was the son of this Herod the Great. So we start in Luke Chapter 1 verse 5 In the days of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah of the division of Abijah and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron and her name was Elizabeth. You remember that Moses had a brother and the brother s name was Aaron and they were both great grandsons of Levi. So the people who descended from Moses and Aaron and they were all .
