TAILIEUCHUNG - A STUDY ON FORMS EXPRESSING FUTURE MEANINGS IN ENGLISH AND VIETNAMESE

There are many points of view supposing that English is the language having the category of tense. Therefore, we often use the inflection of verbs to express the different tenses. For example, I went to Tay Bac University last year indicates the past tense, and I will go to Ho Chi Minh city next year expresses the future tense. Meanwhile, several linguists state that Vietnamese is the language that does not have the category of tense. Then, Vietnamese often use the other forms to express this category. | Up to now, there have been many points of views on the definition of pronoun. Firstly, Huu Quynh (1980: 77) states that pronoun is the part of speech used to point things, to addresses, to replace nouns, verbs, adjectives, numerals, word phrases in the sentences. In addition, the meaning of pronoun is also the meaning of lexicon, which indicates indirectly the names of things, actions, characteristics and quantity of things. Secondly, Le Bien (1999) defines pronoun more vaguely. He says that pronoun is a classification of intermediary word between notional words and formal ones and that it is an intermediary part of speech among the basic ones. Thirdly, authors of the Vietnamese dictionary [17] consider pronoun as the word used to indicate an object, an event said before or an object, something in firm situations of speech. Lastly, Diep Quang Ban & Hoang Van Thung (2006) affirm generally that pronoun is classification of word used to replace and point. It does not indicate directly entity, process or specificity like nouns, verbs and adjectives. It just expresses them indirectly. Pronoun has content reflecting the nature of notional words, which are replaced by it.
