As a newcomer to the organisation I have been struck by the high regard in which the Law Commission is held - for the quality of our law reform work the thoroughness of our approach and the strong reputation we have for our objectivity. These are important aspects of our reputation which we have worked hard to deserve and which we must ensure we maintain. I have also been impressed by the dedication and professionalism of our staff who are passionate about the role the Law Commission has in ensuring that the laws of England and Wales meet the needs of today s society and are fit for purpose. This year we will have the opportunity to re-examine our strategic purpose and set our direction for the future. We have many positives on which to build. The activities we will be undertaking as part of our business plan are designed to continue to strengthen our capability so that we are able to respond to future demands professionally and effectively.
