The popularity of indoor tanning is rooted in the perceived cosmetic and psychological benefits of acquisition or maintenance of a healthy attractive look 15 . There is also a widespread belief that acquisition of a prevacation tan may protect against the harmful effects of the sun. There is a possibility that another strong motive for sunbed use would be the ability of UV exposure especially high UVA doses to induce a sensation of well-being mediated by the synthesis of enkephalin in the skin that enters the bloodstream and then influences the central nervous system 16 .
