Maximum 6 mg kg day. Continuous IV infusion mg kg day. Reduce the dose in renal dysfunction. ADVERSE EFFECTS Constipation diarrhea sedation and rarely tachycardia. Note Does not interact with other drugs. Injection contains phenol. No short-term toxicity is noted. May add the daily dose to the total PN regimen and infuse over 24 h to avoid the need for separate q8h dosing. Respiratory Syncytial Virus Immune Globulin RSV-IGIV RespiGam INDICATIONS AND USE Prevention of serious lower respiratory tract infection from RSV. Consider prophylactic use of RSV-IGIV in patients 2 years old who have BPD and are receiving oxygen therapy or have received oxygen in the past 6 months and infants with a gestational age of 32 weeks even if there is no BPD. RSV-IGIV should not be given to infants with cyanotic congenital heart disease because of safety concerns. Immunization with measles-containing vaccines should be delayed for 9 months after the last dose of RSV-IGIV but no changes need to be made in all other routinely given vaccines. RSV-IGIV may be substituted for IGIV during the RSV season for severely immunocompromised infants and children who receive IGIV monthly. ACTIONS Passive immunization to RSV. RSV-IGIV contains IgG which contains antibody to neutralize RSV pooled from adult human plasma having high titers of neutralizing antibody against RSV. Reduces the number of RSV hospitalizations. Reduces the frequency and severity of RSV infections by 40-60 . PHARMACOKINETICS Mean half-life is 22-28 days. SUPPLIED Injection 2500 mg 50-mL vial 50 mg mL . Refrigerate. ROUTE IV. DOSAGE 750 mg kg 15 mL kg once per month during flu season November- April . Infuse at mL kg h for the first 15 min then at 3 mL kg h for the next 15 min then increase the rate to 6 .
