If you run across a problem with a driver once you ve installed it such as unexplained crashes or a device that doesn t work properly Windows XP can get you out of trouble. To do this it uses the Driver Rollback feature which allows you to replace your current bothersome driver with the previous working version. To access Driver Rollback click Start Control Panel and then select Classic View for the Control Panel. The Classic View shows you all of the Control Panel options as shown in Figure 18-4. Next double-click Administrative Tools Computer Management. In the left-hand list under Computer Management select Device Manager. Device Manager will display a list of all of your system devices. Double-click the device with which you are having a problem and then select the Driver tab. On the Driver tab click the Roll Back Driver button for a list of previous drivers for the device. System Restore allows you to undo things on your system that are giving you problems. If you install a driver or application and you later find that it causes problems you can undo the changes and take the system back to the way it was before the installation. - FIX-IT-YOURSELF HOME REMEDY Note that Windows Me also has t a version of System Restore. Before I go any further I want to make clear that System Restore isn t a lost document restore application or deleted file restore application. It is not a substitute for a backup.
