Every year this new edition represents the culmination of an important collaboration between the American Cancer Society California Division Inc. and the California Cancer Registry of the California Department of Public Health. This 2012 edition contains the most recent data available regarding cancer incidence and mortality as well as expected cancer cases and deaths in the year ahead. Between 1988 and 2009 we have seen overall cancer incidence rates decrease by 11 . In this same time period mortality rates have decreased by 23 . However in 2012 an estimated 144 800 Californians will be diagnosed with cancer. This is equivalent to more than 16 new cases every hour of every day.
