Most database management systems in use today are based on the relational data model so this data model is the basis for our discussion of logical database design. In Chapter 4 we first define the important terms and concepts for this model including relation primary key and surrogate primary key foreign key anomaly normal form normalization functional dependency partial functional dependency and transitive dependency.
