United States Code 2533a into a separate section ofTitle 10 10 . 2533b . Specialty metals are defined in Title 10 United States Ctxle Section 2533b. and the definition is restated in the Defense ledcral Acquisition Regular Supplement t DEARS . The range of specialty metals include Steel metal alloys titanium and titanium alloys and zirconium and zirconium base alloys. Thousandk of products used for defense aerospace. autonxMivc. and renewable energy technologies rely on specialty metals for which there are often few if any substitutes. The availability of sources of supply of some specialty metals. particularly the access til rare earth nxials is an issue raised in recent news reports and congressional hearings. Effective July 2nw the Department of Defense DOD issued a final rule to amend the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement DEARS IO implement Section 842 of the FY20O7 National Defense Authorization Act and Sections 804 and 881 of the FY2008 National Defense Authorization Act. .
