Keywords PEG-Azo-Initiator Synthesis Characterization I - INTRODUCTION There has been enormous amount of interest in block copolymers owing to their use as thermoplastics elastomers adhesives etc. Therefore block copolymers as novel materials possessing physical properties have been studying extensively. Various methods have been proposed and used for the synthesis and graft of block copolymers 1 2 . Among these methods polymeric azo-initiators have been used successfully for the synthesis of block and graft copolymers via a radical mechanism 3 4 . They can be prepared by means of condensation 5 cationic 3 4 anionic 6 and redox 7 polymerization processes without any loss of the azo function. It was reported that crosslinked block copolymers containing PEG-units could be prepared with macroinimers 7 obtained by end-capping the reaction of methacryloyl chloride 4-vinylbenzyl chloride or isocyanato-ethyl methacrylate with the hydroxyl end groups of polyazoesters. These are important because 516 PEG has a high hydrophilicity flexibility and ion absorbability. This work described the synthesis and characterization of an azo initiator containing poly ethylene oxide . This initiator will be used for making radical polymerization of DMAEMA and MOREMA the results of which will be presented in the next paper. II - EXPERIMENTAL 1.
