In Nigeria’s Oyo State, a small grant awardee from the University of Ibadan — Health Promotion and Education Department organized a full-day workshop for state legislators. The workshop generated political priority for pneumonia prevention and control, and discussion surrounding free pneumonia treatment for children under five years of age and the introduction of the Hib vaccine as promised in 2010. The Oyo State government answered the call for action by promising to introduce free health programs within the month and requiring the Ministry of Health to include pneumonia control in their budget for the following year | H O N D U R A S Country Assistance Strategy Fiscal Years 2009-2013 Introduction Country Context Since a return to civilian constitutional rule in 1981 Honduras has made significant progress in many areas. Civil society has become increasingly dynamic with groups focused on human rights the environment and development. Key social indicators have also improved dramatically with significant improvements in primary school graduation infant and maternal mortality and fertility rates. Honduras has also experienced a high level of economic growth in recent years and shows great potential for future sustained growth with a rich resource base and a wide range of opportunities in tourism. Free trade economic policies have been established and a strong cadre of entrepreneurs oriented toward competing in the global marketplace created. Honduras benefits from membership in the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement CAFTA-DR and was the second nation worldwide to attain a Millennium Challenge Corporation MCC Compact.
