As described above, Somalia faces multiple challenges - not least conflict, drought, flooding, inadequate and inequitable social and public services and massive population displacement - but persistently high levels of malnutrition are undermining the survival, growth and development of the population. Rates of acute and chronic malnutrition have consistently exceeded emergency thresholds in some areas for more than 10 years now.
