Creating a nice preloader with ActionScript may require more lines of fancy ActionScript code than you may want to deal with if you re new to Flash. For now you might want to start out with a simple preloader that you can create by following these steps 1. Assuming that you ve already created your main movie add a scene for your preloader by choosing Window tOther Panels11 Scene. In the Scene panel check the plus box at the bottom of the Scene panel. Drag it above the scene of your main movie. Rename it preloader. See Chapter 9 for the lowdown on creating and changing the order of scenes. 2. In the first scene the preloader create a movie clip and put into the movie clip whatever you want your audience to see while the rest of your movie loads. Keep this movie clip simple so that it loads quickly. You might for example create a simple attractive animation that informs the audience that the movie is loading. 3. Choose Window1 Library to open the Library if it isn t already open and drag an instance of the movie clip from the Library onto the Stage. 4. Choose Control11 Test Movie to view your movie. Flash loops the movie clip in your preloader scene so that it plays over and over until your main movie is loaded. When you test your preloader by choosing Control1 tTest Movie your main movie might load so quickly that you don t even see the preloader. Choose View1 Simulate Download to see how your preloader works while your main movie loads. See Chapter 13 for more information on testing a movie and analyzing its download performance. You can also upload your file to a test page on your Web site to see how the preloader works. Make sure that your preloader is long enough for the human eye to see.
