Here s the theory behind a usability lab. So the architects and UI designers get together and design the software. They make nice storyboards detailed functional and technical specifications and a schedule with elegant Gantt and PERT charts that fills an entire wall. Several million dollars later the programmers have actually built the thing and it looks like it s actually working. It s on time and under budget too In theory. But this story Zs the theory not the reality remember That Really Cool etc. as it s now known has hired usability engineers who have spent the last six months building a state-of-theart usability testing lab. The lab has two rooms one for observers with a one-way mirror that allows them to
