One past tense verb in each series should have a different -ed sound than the other two. Ask the students to identify the verb with the different ed sound. Example You say baked cleaned cooked the students select cleaned. Activity 3 Ask students to prepare a two- to three-minute talk about a personal experience they have had as an adult or child. Encourage them to relate their experiences in a conversational manner and to use as many past tense verbs as possible. Ask the listeners to make a list of all the regular past tense verbs used by each speaker. After each presentation ask for a volunteer to read his or her list aloud being careful to pronounce the -ed endings of the past tense verbs correctly.
