This site was infected with three different shells and had a list 455-pages long list of email addresses and a ton of spam ads it was serving up. The server s mail engine had been compromised and was spamming . Lastly the website itself had been defaced with a message from a person stating his dislike of the conflict between Palestine and Israel. Sadly had this person who defaced the system not done so the server would still be quietly offering up a daily fare of spam. The point is that after I successfully removed ALL KNOWN traces of these attackers they were still there. The rootkit was still working fine. I reviewed the logs for the after-action report and discovered a single link hidden in them. I reviewed and followed it and bam I was in the hacker s shell in the backside of
