This document revises an earlier publication Management and Control of the Environment WHO PEP 89 1 and was developed under WHO s Global Environmental Technology Network GETNET . GETNET is a programme to enable authorities at the local regional and national levels to identify assess and take actions on their own to prevent or eliminate environmental problems which threaten public health. In 1986 the World Health Organization teamed with three other United Nations agencies - United Nations Environment Programme UNEP United Nations Industrial Development Organization UNIDO and the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA to form the Inter-Agency Project on Risk Management. The purpose of this programme is to develop an integrated approach to the identification prioritization and minimization of important industrial hazards in a given area.
