For this reason, many of the activities you will find in the Consolidation stage are not speaking activities but simply understanding tasks. For example, students may be asked to read (or listen to) a series of sentences -some including structure X and some including structure Y - and to match these sentences with the appropriate pictures. These kinds of activities are sometimes called grammar interpretation tasks, because they require the learners to interpret the grammar item rather than simply produce it.
