A global network of networks It is based on Internet Protocol (IP) A standard (Language) used over internet for computers to communicate with each other. The Internet is made up of many thousands of smaller national, regional, government, academic and commercial networks that link together to form a global network. All of these networks use the Internet Protocol (IP). IP is a set of rules which allow the computers that are connected to a network to communicate with each other whether they are PCs, Macintoshes or Unix machines. Any network can join the Internet as long as it uses the Internet Protocol. No one controls the Internet, it works because these smaller networks co-operate with each other. Who can Join Internet? Anyone with a computer and internet connection. At home, office, public places etc. Any network can join the Internet Includes research, academic, community & commercial networks .
