TAILIEUCHUNG - Characteristics of elemental and organic carbon in atmospheric nanoparticles at different sampling locations in vietnam
The study provides an interesting observation that particulate OC and EC have spatial and temporal variations dependent on sampling sites and weather conditions. In contrast, consistent OC/EC ratios were also found at both seasons of each location, in which the ratios were from to . The correlations of OC and EC were found in the rainy season with the slopes ranging from –; however, these correlations were not observed in the dry season. | Vietnam Journal of Science and Technology 55 (3) (2017) 305-315 DOI: CHARACTERISTICS OF ELEMENTAL AND ORGANIC CARBON IN ATMOSPHERIC NANOPARTICLES AT DIFFERENT SAMPLING LOCATIONS IN VIETNAM Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy1, 2, Nghiem Trung Dung1, *, Kazuhiko Sekiguchi3, Ryosuke Yamaguchi3, Pham Chau Thuy4, Ho Quoc Bang5 1 School of Environmental Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, 1 Dai Co Viet, Hanoi, Vietnam 2 Faculty of International Training, Thai Nguyen University of Technology, 3/2 Road, Thai Nguyen, Vietnam 3 Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Saitama University, 225 Shimo-Okubo, Sakura, Saitama, Japan 4 Faculty of Environment, Vietnam National University of Agriculture,Trau Quy, Gia Lam, Hanoi, Vietnam 5 Institute for Environment and Resources, Vietnam National University, 142 To Hien Thanh, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam * Email: Received: 29 October 2016; Accepted for publication: 27 January 2017 ABSTRACT Atmospheric ultrafine particles (NPs or ) were investigated at a roadside of Nguyen Van Cu road (Vinacomin) and at a mixed site in the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Hanoi, Vietnam. The sampling was conducted during a rainy reason and a dry season to determine the characteristics of atmospheric elemental and organic carbon in the nanoparticles. The relative contributions of organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) to total carbon (TC) at HUST were – % and – %, respectively; whereas those at Vinacomin’s sampling site accounted for – % and – %, respectively. The study provides an interesting observation that particulate OC and EC have spatial and temporal variations dependent on sampling sites and weather conditions. In contrast, consistent OC/EC ratios were also found at both seasons of each location, in which the ratios were from to . The correlations of OC and EC were found in .
