For example in the case of a braced frame it is not necessary to separate frame and bracing behavior because both can be analyzed with a single model. On the other hand for more complicated three-dimensional structures involving the interaction of different structural systems simple models are useful for preliminary design and for checking computer results. These models should be able to capture the behavior of individual subframes and their effects on the overall structures. The remainder of this section attempts to describe what a framed system represents define when a framed system can be considered to be braced by another system .
