The examples in this chapter demonstrate the J2EE Connector Technology by accessing relational databases. However this technology is not a substitute for the JDBC API. It is through the resource adapter that a J2EE application communicates with an EIS. See Figure 20. Stored in a RAR Resource adapter ARchive file a resource adapter may be deployed on any J2EE server much like the EAR file of a J2EE application.
