TAILIEUCHUNG - Assessment of physiological traits for adaptation to flowering stage water deficit in rainfed lowland rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Responses of 4 cultivars of rice viz. NDR-8002, TCA-48, IR-42 and BPT 5204 to varying levels of moisture deficit stress at flowering stage were assessed in the plastic tubs for their relative tolerance to drought. Moisture deficit adversely affected the apparent translocation rate, relative leaf water content, total chlorophyll content and total soluble carbohydrate content, while proline accumulation enhanced irrespective of varieties. Grain yield decreased conspicuously in all the varieties in response to water stress. Amongst the rice varieties, NDR-8002 and TCA-48 were noted to be relatively more drought tolerant than other 2 cultivars on the basis of their yield performance. The flowering stage in rice was found to be very critical to moisture deficit stress. | Assessment of physiological traits for adaptation to flowering stage water deficit in rainfed lowland rice (Oryza sativa L.)
