Hemingway was one of the witnesses of the time of the height in the feminist struggle. His life and works are also given to dissect and judge by the feminist. But parallel with it, the era when Hemingway lived there were many events even bigger than the long struggle for the rights of sex and gender. Two World Wars have claimed the lives of millions of people, the development, and the change of social after the war that many people found the boundary between life and death, between fantasy and reality which is so fragile. Pain, emptiness, loneliness became the regular haunt in the heart of each person regardless of male or female. Thus the factors which were thought that marked feminist in methods of expressing the character of Hemingway describes the anomaly of the times rather than conveys the intention of a philosophy.
