Most industries engage in one or more activities that result in the release of pollutants into the atmosphere and in the last 40 years steps have been taken to reduce these emissions through the application of process modifications or the installation and use of air pollution control technologies. Air pollution sources are typically divided into two major categories mobile and stationary. This chapter will discuss the use of technologies for reducing air pollution emissions from stationary sources with an emphasis on the control of combustion-generated air pollution. Major stationary sources include utility power boilers industrial boilers and heaters metal smelting and processing plants and chemical and other manufacturing plants. Pollutants that are of primary concern are those that in sufficient ambient
