The aim of these deals is to empower cities to forge their own path to play to their own strengths and to find creative solutions to local problems. But every city is different. So we are moving away from a one-size-fits-all model towards individual city deals. We want cities to come to us with ambitious proposals on what they will do to support private sector growth and what powers and freedoms they need to make this happen. But these deals are two way - cities will need to show strong leadership and deliver real growth and jobs for their communities. My message to them is to seize this opportunity - to work with us to break open our politics and lay the foundations for lasting growth.
