Diversification of Agriculture in Eastern North-Eastern India the Poor Introduction The question of diversification of agriculture in India especially in Eastern India has become an important topic for discussion and debate in recent years. In fact it is held by many economists and politicians that poverty and unemployment both open and disguised in the rural sector in Eastern India are the consequences of low production and productivity in agriculture. One common phrase very often used by politico-economic announcements is Diversification in agriculture is the panacea for low productivity poverty and unemployment in the agricultural and rural sector. In most of the cases however the spokesmen for diversification hardly provide any definition of the term diversification .
