Tham khảo tài liệu 'cooling and lubrication system maintenance part 3', kỹ thuật - công nghệ, cơ khí - chế tạo máy phục vụ nhu cầu học tập, nghiên cứu và làm việc hiệu quả | Your questions should have been as follows 1. What is a cooling fan 2. What are the three functions of the pressure cap 3. What is the purpose of the recovery tank 4. What is an oil cooler 5. What is the purpose of the temperature sending unit How did you do If you asked all the right questions the next topic should be easy. If you missed something go back and review the material we just covered. 1209. Operation and Coolant Flow The best way to understand coolant flow is to trace the flow through the system. For the sake of understanding let s take the most unusual system the LVS. When the engine starts the water pump draws coolant from the rear of the radiator. The coolant passes through the water pump into passages in the engine block the aftercooler and the cylinder heads. The coolant circulates within the engine until its temperature reaches 180 F. When the coolant reaches 180 F the two thermostats open and coolant flows into the front tank of the radiator. The action of the water pump then pulls the coolant through the radiator. The fan is also activated at 180 F. It helps dissipate the heat by drawing air through the hydraulic and transmission coolers and then through the radiator. Okay try your luck again. See if you can put all the components to work by describing the flow of coolant through the system. Figure 1-33 is a drawing of the LVS cooling system. First label the components and then using two different colors of ink red and blue color the arrows that show the flow of hotter coolant within the system red. Color the arrows that represent coolant that has been cooled by the cooling system blue. Don t forget that the LVS has two thermostats. 1-27 LVS COOLING SYSTEM Fig 1-33.
