Bidirectional promoters exhibit characteristic chromatin modification signature associated with transcription elongation in both sense and antisense directions

In contrast to unidirectional promoters wherein antisense transcription results in short transcripts which are rapidly degraded, bidirectional promoters produce mature transcripts in both sense and antisense orientation.
