Staphylococcus aureus continues to be a dangerous pathogen for both community-acquired as well as hospital-associated infections. Strains of S. aureus resistant to methicillin were reported soon after its introduction in October 1960.The antimicrobial chemotherapy for this species has always been empirical, because of its resistance to many therapeutic agents.
