Thirty castor hybrids were developed by crossing three pistillate lines with ten male parents in a line × tester mating design during rabi, 2016-17. The hybrids along parents were evaluated during kharif, 2017-18 for variability and combining ability. The analysis of variance for nine economically important characters indicated significant differences among the genotypes, implying presence of wide diversity in the material studied. High heritability (broad sense) estimates were observed for all the traits under study which showed that the variability in phenotypic expression reflects the genotypic ability to transmit the genes to their offspring. | Studies on magnitude of genetic variability and estimates of combining ability for yield and its contributing traits among improved lines of castor (Ricinus communis L.)
