We still have radar but now with ARPA, electronic navigation charts and real time graphics. One might easily feel that the Officer of the Watch is becoming superfluous to shipboard operations. This is not the case, in any shape or form.What is happening, is that the capabilities of the OOW are changing and the interpretation and monitoring skills have increased extensively.Alongside this changing work pattern, is the keeping of records.
