The term fixturing is also commonly used to describe workholding. Design of workholding devices normally falls within the domain of expertise of tool designers who decide what fabrication or assembly tools to use as well as what fixtures or jigs to employ. The overall objective is to increase productivity through increased rates of manufacturing utilize tools with appropriate lengths of life and fixtures jigs with optimum accuracies.
