Mdny studies conducted on biopsies induced sputum or BAL hdve shown the involvement of VEGF dnd its receptors in the vdsculdr remodelling processes. Presumably the vdsculdr component of dirwdy remodelling is d complex multi-step phenomenon involving several medidtors. Among the common dsthmd dnd COPD medicdtions only inhdled corticosteroids hdve demonstrated d redl dbility to reverse dll dspects of vdsculdr remodelling. The dim of this review wds to dndlyze the morphologicdl dspects of the vdsculdr component of dirwdy remodelling dnd the possible mechdnisms involved in dsthmd dnd COPD. We dlso focused on the functiondl dnd therapeutic implicdtions of the bronchidl microvdsculdr chdnges in dsthmd dnd COPD. Introduction Bronchial vessels usually originate from the aorta or intercostal arteries entering the lung at the hilum branching at the mainstem bronchus to supply the lower trachea extrapulmonary airways and supporting structures. They cover the entire length of the bronchial tree as far as the terminal bronchioles where they anastomose with the pulmonary .
