Studies of gene expression and the charting of the genomes of several species including our own has provided a deluge of new information and new insights. The exquisite sensitivity and versatility of this technology has uncovered both hormone production and hormone receptors in unexpected places and revealed hitherto unappreciated roles for classical hormones.
