TAILIEUCHUNG - The Healthy School Communities Model Aligning Health & Education in the School Setting

One of the contributions of this study is to look not only at the impact of an overall measure of mental health, but also to look at how the different components of the GHQ measure relate to edu- cational attainment and the probability of moving into inactivity at an early age. We find strong patterns of association with re- spect to the overall measure, particularly for girls. However, we also find that different components are not equally important and that the effects of ’anxiety’ and the other factors are indeed associated with outcomes in opposite directions. Valois is a professor of health promotion education and behavior in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina and served as the evaluation consultant for the Healthy School Communities pilot project. Valois holds a Bachelor of Science degree in health science from the SUNY College at Brockport . a Master of Science degree in school health and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in community health and educational psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Public Health degree in health behavior from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center School of Public Health.
