The Government of India has highlighted the need for a holistic approach in dealing with the impact of extremism on communities, in line with the recommendations of an Expert Group on Development Challenges in Extremist Affected Areas submitted to the Planning Commission in 2008. The initiative is an unprecedented global movement aimed at saving the lives of 16 million women and children in the 49 poorest countries by 2015 and accelerating achievement of the Millennium Development EWEC works to mobilize and intensify international and national action by governments multilaterals the private sector and civil society to address the major health challenges facing women and children around the world. The initiative puts into action the Global Strategy for Women s and Children s Health. This presents a roadmap on how to enhance financing strengthen policy and improve delivery of the health services and products needed in the countries to help women and children.
