Caska Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno Brno Czech Republic ABSTRACT The Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape is an exemplary area that has been influenced by purposeful human activity for a long time. Under these conditions the nonesuch highly cultural and ecologically valuable landscape complex has come into being. The tertiary road system is a part of this landscape and was built as one of its secondary structures. Forest and rural road systems were designed for higher efficiency of management and better utilization of land with 73 increase in hauling road density and 16 increase in rural cart-road density in the period under consideration. On the basis of evaluation of forest and rural road network development evaluation of forest conditions and forest management the analysis of tertiary road development and forest management in this area can be made. Finally it is possible to draw up general methodology and principles of forest opening-up in respect of sustainable development. This methodology and principles in combination with design principles of rural roads and in accordance with functionally integrated management could be applied in the landscape management of this area and also in similar ones.
