A second element of Project Management software is the PERT (Program Evaluation and Review Technique) chart. The PERT chart isn’t new either. Therefore we believe that there is not a one-size-fits-all solution to digital collection development. Rather the key to successful digital projects is in the approach. An important initial step is analyzing the landscape - identifying user needs investigating best practices within a community and then applying this information on a case by case basis. The purpose of this document is to outline key steps in the digitization process and provide suggestions for successful management of such projects. PROJECT PROFILE A profile document is intended to be an executive summary for active digital projects. As such the primary purpose of this document is to provide condensed high level information regarding key characteristics of a digital project to effectively communicate its goals and objectives. Some key project aspects to include are a statement of need defined goals outline the collection scope and identify specific deliverables as well as the standard descriptors such as title key dates and personnel. Generally it is desired to kept this document to one page in length. As each digital project may have unique features and or constraints some variation in the data provided is reasonable. Supplemental information may also include a list the key standards employed and digital specifications.
