Các kích thước thực tế đã được hiển thị. Bức ảnh này được hiển thị đến 15 nhà xây dựng. Bản vẽ đã được công nhận rộng rãi là một người đàn ông đo bố trí thép trong ringbeam. It was shown to 25 builders who were asked what they saw in the picture. Although the elements of the drawing were recognised the use of a tick and a cross to denote good and bad were not understood by the builders of Northern Pakistan thus the message of the drawing was lost. Further confusion was caused by the use of borders around the two pictures which were seen as rooms. The fingers were commonly seen as pointing rather than indicating a dimension. Layout of Reinforcing steel Version 2 The picture was redrawn to exclude the graphic conventions that were not understood in Northern Pakistan. The bad practice was omitted and only good practice illustrated picture borders were omitted. The picture emphasised the concept of laying out the steel by showing a man holding a ruler measuring spacing. The actual dimensions were shown. This picture was shown to 15 builders. The drawing was widely recognised to be a man measuring steel layout in a ringbeam. The dimensions were seen as indicating correct sizes but their relationship to parts of the drawing were not clear. The man without a head and the second hand were distracting and confusing. Layout of Reinforcing steel Version 3 A further revision of the drawing tried to improve the message of the material. The man s head was included and the scale was reduced to show more context. The man s other hand was removed from view. The dimensions were placed actually in the position of their measurement rather than using the technical drawing convention of dimension lines outside their location. This picture was shown to another 20 builders. Most said it was a man measuring steel layout in a beam on a stone masonry wall. Nearly all of the respondents .
