He created a system employing simply 1 and 0. But he didn t realize then what wonders this binary system would work some day. Derived from the above binary system computers were invented as early as in the 1940 s. By its definition an electronic computer is a machine that can process data and information. A computer may also be termed as electric brain for it is similar to the human brain. One of the most important components inside a computer resembling the human brain is the central processing unit CPU which usually takes the form of one silicon chip. CPU is also considered to be the most complicated microprocessor in the world which contains millions of transistors within one small chip. These transistors act as tiny switches either to stop an electrical impulse or let it pass and all the mathematical and logical calculations are based exactly on this simple stop and pass . Like the human brain a computer also has a memory and storage system where vast quantities of information can be stored temporarily or permanently. By its capacity and size the electronic computers may be subdivided into the microcomputer such as PC and APPLE the minicomputer the medium-computer the large-computer mainframe computer such as IBM 390 and the supercomputer. Computers software i. e. programs is classified as the system software and the application software. The former includes the operation system OS and the language system such as Assemble Language BASIC COBOL C C and JAVA. Whereas the latter varies with the application fields for example the data base management system DBMS the office automation OA software and the graphic processing software. In our shipyards a lot of modern computers have been introduced and a computer network for the whole corporation with a connection to the Internet has been established. The speed and .
