It s an excellent red to use with Yellow Ochre and white for basic flesh colors. Darken and redden Cadmium Red Light with additions of Alizarin Crimson. Even though the cadmium colors are considered opaque you can glaze with them. They do have to be thinned with a medium to make them a glaze but never make them runny. All the cadmium colors are expensive but strong which means you don t have to squeeze out much. Another factor that eases their high cost is that they dry very slowly and will remain workable on your palette for days or even weeks. There are more cadmium reds available Cadmium Red Medium and Cadmium Red Deep. Both are quite useless because they dull down drastically when mixed with even a touch of white. Since the color red is a medium tone its color and value have to be seen against a dark background or a light one.
