Ca Mau and Bac Lieu provinces were split from Minh Hai province in the beginning of 1997. Since then, the economy of Ca Mau province has grown rapidly and steadily. CA MAU Ca Mau and Bac Lieu provinces were split from Minh Hai province in the beginning of 1997. Since then, the economy of Ca Mau province has grown rapidly and steadily. The provincial economic structure has changed in the direction of progressively expanding industry and services and reducing agriculture, forestry and fisheries. As a result of economic restructuring, the aqua cultural area has expanded rapidly to 280,000ha at this time making Ca Mau the largest aqua cultural province in Vietnam. The Government has invested more than US$1 billion in construction of the Ca Mau Gas - Power - Nitrogenous Fertilizer Industrial Complex including Ca Mau 1 and Ca Mau 2 power plants with a combined capacity of 1,500MW, a 800,000 tone/year nitrogenous fertilizer production plant, plus a lot of infrastructure projects, which allow the province to develop the potential, boost economic restructuring and socioeconomic growth. Infrastructure projects have been built such as roads, airports, ports, irrigation systems, markets, restaurants, hotels, tourist resorts, new urban areas, schools, hospitals, power grids, water systems and more, which have together improved the provincial face.
