TAILIEUCHUNG - Read all about it starter part 10

Each unit in Read All About It Starter focuses on the same topic and vocabulary as the corresponding unit in The Basic Oxford Picture Dictionary and incorporates vocabulary from other units as well* Students who use Read All About It Starter will gain confidence in their reading ability and learn that they can understand what they read without knowing every word. | TEACHER S NOTES Teaching the Units There are three main sections in each unit. TALK ABOUT IT introduces the topic and activates students prior knowledge. READ ABOUT IT and READ MORE ABOUT IT each contain the components of an effective reading lesson pre-reading reading and post-reading activities. Before You Read Teachers can make these pre-reading activities most effective by initially leading the students through them thereby modeling the strategies a competent reader uses prior to reading a text. The strategies are repeated and reinforced as students progress through the book. New vocabulary is most effectively presented in context. In Read AU About It Starter many new n vocabulary words are evident in the picture captionM or the Before You Read questions. To help students guess the meaning of the words the teacher can point out any clues in the captions questions or pictures that may inform the student s guessing. Modeling this approach to guessing meaning from context is an effective way to accustom students to using the strategy themselves. To avoid overwhelming the students working with a maximum of about eight new words is recommended. New words are often reviewed in the After You Read section of each unit. When students encounter words they want to learn they can record them in their personal vocabulary diary Remember the Words on page 104. Each reading incorporates a number of words from the corresponding unit and other units of The Basic Oxford Picture Dictionary so the readings can be used to reinforce that vocabulary. See page 00 for the Word List with references to The Basic Oxford Picture Dictionary. While You Read Since reading is most often a solitary activity silent reading is an important part of the learning process. Therefore the readings in this text are meant to be read individually and silently first Once students i have worked thoroughly with the reading and follow up exercises the teacher or students may read the passage aloud to work on .
