TAILIEUCHUNG - Kaempferol and kaempferol glycosides from Phyllanthus acidus leaves

In the search for hepatoprotective plants in Vietnam, the leaves of Phyllanthus acidus (L.) Skeels were selected for chemical investigation. Phytochemical analysis of the ethyl acetate fraction of the methanol extract led to the isolation of four compounds, including kaempferol (1), and its glycosides, kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucoside (2), kaempferol-3-Oα-L-rhamnopyranoside (3), and kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 2)- α-L-arabinopyranoside (4). The structures of the natural compounds were determined from the spectroscopic evidences, including 1D, 2D-NMR. Here is the first report of the isolation of compound 4 from the genus Phyllanthus, family Phyllanthaceae. | Vietnam Journal of Chemistry, International Edition, 54(6): 790-793, 2016 DOI: Kaempferol and kaempferol glycosides from Phyllanthus acidus leaves Nguyen Cong Thuy Tram1, Ninh The Son2, Do Thi Thao3, Nguyen Manh Cuong2* 1 Faculty of Biology and Environmental Science, University of Education, University of Danang 2 Institute of Natural Products Chemistry, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology 3 Institute of Biotechnology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Received 26 July 2016; Accepted for publication 19 December 2016 Abstract In the search for hepatoprotective plants in Vietnam, the leaves of Phyllanthus acidus (L.) EXPERIMENTAL The genus Phyllanthus (Phyllanthaceae family) in Vietnam comprises about 53 species, several of which are very common and widely distributed throughout the country such as P. chamaepeuce (Cau troi), P. urinaria (Cho de), P. virgatus (Vay oc) [1]. Previous investigations from various plant parts of Phyllanthus species led to the isolation of triterpenes [2], tannins [3], alkaloids, steroids, saponins [4], flavonoids and flavonoid glycosides [5], and acids [6]. The species Phyllanthus acidus (L.) Skeels distributed in tropical and subtropical countries, with local name “Chum ruot” in Vietnam or Grosella in Puerto Rico, Jimbilin in Jamaica, and .
