Tim Albert learnt the long words studying psychology and the short ones as a Daily Mirror trainee. He then worked for the broadsheets and the BBC and was education correspondent of the New Statesman. Rampant hypochondriasis steered him into medical journalism, and he was executive editor of World Medicine and editor of BMA News Review.
